Different Laboratory Departments & Their Roles

Laboratories are the backbone of medical organizations. There is a huge role of medical laboratories in the world of medicine and hospitals because all the tests and diagnosis that are required for proper treatment are done only in the clinical laboratories. If laboratories were not there, no proper treatment of chronic / life threatening diseases would ever be made possible. Also, it’s not just about one type of lab that does it wholly, but there are different types of labs which are aimed for different testes and carry out different diagnosis.

Chemistry Lab:
Chemistry laboratories perform a wide variety of tests by studying the matter and the various elements related to the human body. The tests which commonly are analyzed in the chemistry lab are cholesterol, glucose, BUN, potassium, thyroid tests, liver and heart enzymes, hormone tests, and PSA etc.

Immunology Lab:
Immunology is the study of immune elements for example antibodies produced by the body in response to foreign material. The lab diagnose about the immunity strength of the patients and check the levels of risks.

Hematology Lab:
This lab deals with the study of blood, blood morphology and blood diseases etc. In the lab, the Hematologists count and classify types of blood cells into specific categories. It can also test the clotting of blood.

Microbiology Lab:
There are certain health issues which are caused because of bacteria, algae, viruses and fungi etc. as any bodily fluid or tissue can be cultured for infectious disease. Such elements can be tested against in microbiology lab and the tests are then forwarded for further processing or are used for developing the right antibiotics.

Surgical Pathology:
The structural as well as functional changes in the tissues, muscles, and organs of the body that may cause a disease or are caused by an ailment are generally tested and diagnosed in surgical pathology or called just ‘Pathology’. To be brief, it is the branch of medicine, which treats the essential nature of diseases in tissues and organs.

Cytology Lab:
In cytology laboratory, a professional cytotechnologist inspects the cells of the  patient by using the latest microscopes so as to  look for early signs of cancer and other such chronic / life threatening diseases. Pap smear is the most common type of specimen processed in the Cytology department / lab.

Among all these different laboratories each lab holds its own importance and worth in a hospital or medical organization. Also, it is necessary for the advanced hospitals to offer all services to attract more and more patients. Patients too want to visit the medical organization or a hospital which has almost all or maximum of these types of labs.

There are certain laboratory center in Dubai which are dedicated for the patients and deliver most of these services through specific, systematic labs and treat your disease in no time.
